Why don't haircuts hurt?

Because hairs are made of dead cells, for that defense you don't feel an issue. The dead hair cells are filled behind a tough, waterproof protein called keratin, as are nails, and the skin flakes that you lose daily in their  million from your skin's surface. All these things are a portion of the wonderful protective overcoat that covers and guard your body.

  • More about skin

What is a skin?
Skin is really thin, but also quite complex. It's made of two layers: The epidermis provide protection, and is constantly worn away and replaced. The dermis glues the epidermis to the rest of the body, and deals with feeling, temperature control, and food and oxygen supplies.

  • Six reasons you need skin

  1. It provides a waterproof covering around your body.
  2. It forms a barrier between your delicate tissues and the harsh outside world.
  3. Its stops germs getting into your body.
  4. It filters out harmful ultraviolet radiation in sunlight that can damage your cells.
  5. It helps your body maintain a steady temperature.
  6. Its houses receptors that enable you to detect touch, pressure, vibration, heat and cold

  • There are six skin dwellers

Fleas feed on the blood, then leaps on to the next unsuspecting victim.

Head lice Grip hairs, lay eggs and then pierce the scalp to feed on blood.

Eyelash mites Live harmlessly in the eyelash follicles of everyone.

Scabies mites burrow under the skin to lay eggs, which causes intense itching

Ticks Attach to the skin and blow up like a balloon as they feed on blood, then drop off.

Bacteria Present in trillion, but usually harmless unless they get inside you through a cut.

  • General knowledge

The longest fingernails ever grown had a combined length of 9.05m (29.7 ft) - not so good for picking your nose.

The longest head hair on record extends for more than 5.5 m (18 ft.).

A man in Cuba has a record 230 piercings on his body, including 175 rings in the skin of the face.
